“BEING MADE”

September 2010: TRASH DANCE

October 2010: HUNGRY IN AMERICA

November 2010: A LOT LIKE YOU

December 2010: BAYOU MAHARAJAH

On the 15th of each month,  one documentary film that is a work in progress, will be featured. Documentary films are our stories. Hence, the purpose of this post is that as subjects and/or consumers of documentary stories, our comments, critiques, questions and support will help the filmmaker in their journey and in the completion of their film. The post will share with us why, what, when, where and how the project began and what stage it is in now. The filmmaker’s passion, vision and goal will be an integral part of the post.

Documentary films are very challenging and time consuming to make. They require a lot of money, tender, love and care during production. Most documentary filmmakers make the movies that they make because they love their story, their characters, the issues and the bigger cause it represents. Every month one film in progress will not only be selected and featured but we strive hard to help fulfill one wish. Real Talkies with its viewers, will try hard to make every effort to find partners to help achieve one ‘small objective need’ that will get them one step closer to the final project. This is not an explicit fund raising campaign or traditional contest, but a cyber community participation event. Therefore the more creative and non-monetary (cash) the request the better.

If you know a film that is being made and would like it to be featured, comment on the post with a following info.

1) Short synopsis of the film.

    1) Short synopsis of the film -
    Heads Held High
“Why do you school my brother but not me?”
Girls in the Kolkata slums are tired of being held back. Education means hope and they are fighting for it. India, the fourth largest economy in the world, despite its unprecedented growth in the last decade has some of the biggest gender and economic gaps in its education system. Boys are schooled at double the rate of girls and many girls in poor communities deeply feel their second-class status. The girls understand their stakes and they often fight tooth and nail to continue school, but without resources what can they do? They want their story told and the world to listen. Unblinking Eye Films is embarking on a documentary film and cross-platform community based project to share with the world the struggles girls in the Kolkata slums have in gaining access to education—as well as their successes in partnership with Shampa Roy and the staff of Trinita Society for social and Health Research.

    2) What stage is your project in?
We are in the pre-production phase. We took one research trip to India and got a small amount of footage while we searched for the right non-profit to work with and did some community projects with the kids we chose to follow to build up our relationship.

    3) Your creative wish: We’d love to get a boost of followers to our blog and facebook page

    4) Location of your project (geographical) Atlanta/Kolkata India
