POSTER = "INSIDE DEEP THROAT

“Inside Deep Throat” was a 2005 documentary made by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato. The poster clearly illustrates the film is definitely not about the secret informant – DEEP THROAT, the whistler blower in the infamous Watergate scandal whose identity was not known till 2005. In 2005 at the age of 91, the former associate director of F.B.I, Mark Felt revealed that he was indeed ‘DEEP THROAT’.

Coincidentally, “Inside Deep Throat” released the same year – 2005 was about the real ‘DEEP THROAT’, a 1972 American pornographic movie made by a hairstylist turned filmmaker. The film was ground breaking and revolutionary for its times. Unlike most pornographic films, the film boasted of high production value, good cinematography, an actual story, plot, characters and tongue in cheek humor. It was also the first time pornographic film, that was screened and viewed in mainstream venues by people from all walks of life. Sexual intimacy, oral sex, female orgasm, sexual terminology was reviewed, discussed, humored and debated in popular culture, media and public. “Inside Deep Throat” is a critically acclaimed documentary that takes an in depth look at the film, the impact of the film on people in the film, the socio-political debate that ensued and the drastic changes imposed judicially and the current state of the pornographic industry.

The documentary is told through the voices of Gerard Damiano (director) , Linda (female lead), her family and friends, Harry Reems (male lead), several adult movie artists, theater managers, lawyers, prosecutors and F.B.I personnel. “Inside Deep Throat” had all the ingredients to stir up curiosity – SEX, PORN CONTROVERSY, POLITICAL SCANDAL and MONEY and that is exactly why I did not watch it for so long, just presumed what it possibly was going to be about.

The closest analogy that I can think of is an artichoke. Bailey and Barbato’s film peeled layer after layer about the film, the industry, the different views and perspectives until we got to the core of issue – What was the big deal? What happened at the end? What does the obscenity laws mean?

WATCH THE MOVIE! It doesn’t matter which side of the aisle you are on.
